Will my Office Based Surgery Suite be accredited?

Most states require either licensure, registration and/or accreditation for Class B and above Office Based Surgery suites. Typically, many Class A Office Based Surgery suites adhere to standards equivalent to accreditation standards without applying for accreditation.  Many doctors choose to achieve accreditation to ensure standards are met and maintained as well as insurance contracting purposes. iOR Partners will work with you to meet your specific goals and objectives and ensure your facility delivers the best and safest patient care possible. 

Will my Office Based Surgery suite be able to accept Medicare?

Unless the surgery suite is formally surveyed by Medicare or a deemed third-party surveyor, it will not be Medicare certified. In 2016, Medicare accepted comment on several surgeries performed in ASCs and is currently evaluating them for an Office Based Surgery setting, with no formal decision yet.  Medicare Advantage patients are treated as commercial insurance beneficiaries and can be accepted in the office-based setting. Can I collect a facility fee?

Third-party payers (Insurance companies) often reimburse additionally for procedures  performed in Office Based Surgery suite. This depends on the specialty and type of cases being performed.  

What type of procedures can I perform in my Office Based Surgery suite?

 Procedures that can be safely performed on patients with mild to moderate systemic disease.  These include cases that require mild to moderate sedation.  

Will insurance cover these procedures?

 Third-party payers (Insurance companies) often reimburse additionally for procedures performed in Office Based Surgery suite. 

Can I bill for the IOL?

 Medicare has a code that allows the surgeon to bill a reasonable amount for the IOL in an office-based surgery suite.
